가지런히 어지르고 흩트리며 정리하기

본 연구는 디자이너가 스스로 디자인을 시작하는 지점을 설정한다면 작업물은 어떤 형태를 그리며 나아갈지에 대해 탐구했다. 디자인을 하려는 욕구가 발현되는 지점이나 작업 과정에서 떠올랐던 생각을 글로 정리하고, 작업에 참고하기 위해 텍스트와 이미지 자료를 모으고, 그 결과로 만들어 낸 것이나 완성한 것 그리고 완성되지 못한 것을 기록했다. 또 각각의 사건을 살피고 전체를 조망하는 방법으로 연구를 진행했다. 작업을 할 때 가지런히 정리하고 어지럽게 흩트리는 행동은 유기적으로 반복되었고 그 결과 한 가지 사건은 하나의 작업에 국한되지 않고 다음 작업으로 이어졌다. 정해진 기간 혹은 예산이나 타인의 요구에 응하기보다 디자이너 자신의 동기에 따라 디자인을 한 지난 2년 반 동안의 과정을 통해, 다음 디자인을 이어가는 것은 ‘가지런히 어지르고 흩트리며 정리하는’ 과정을 통해 실현됨을 발견했다.
The thesis started from the hypothesis that I, as the designer, make spontaneous decisions to start projects. Then I explored the processes and aspects of the projects while summarizing the thoughts occurring in the work process or when I felt the desire to create designs, collecting the text and image data to refer to the work, and documenting the complete and incomplete results. Each event was individually viewed in the process, then checked the prospect as a whole. The acts of arranging and disarranging in the process were naturally repeated, and as a result, one event was not limited to one project but extended to the next. In the last two and a half years of process, I followed my motivation as a designer rather than responding to others’ deadlines, budgets, or needs. Then I have learned that proceeding to the next design could be achieved from the sequence of ‘Arrange Tangly, Disarrange Tidily.’
